Aamenn - Encrypted cloud built for MENA
A zero-knowledge encrypted cloud storage platform built for Arab and MENA-region users — files are encrypted on-device before they ever leave the browser.
Overview
AAMEEN OrgAAMEEN is a privacy-first, end-to-end encrypted cloud storage platform serving Arab and MENA-region users. The system is built on a strict zero-knowledge principle: the server never sees plaintext files, never holds encryption keys, and only orchestrates signed upload/download URLs to cloud storage. The frontend encrypts all files in the browser using AES-256-GCM before upload, and decrypts them locally on download. The backend is a NestJS REST API backed by PostgreSQL, Redis, and an S3-compatible cloud storage layer. The platform ships with full Arabic/English RTL support, MENA-native payment options via Paymob (cards, wallets, Fawry), Google OAuth, and offline-capable file previews via IndexedDB.
What was not working
Most cloud storage platforms are built for Western markets — English-only, no RTL support, no local payment options, and with server-side access to user files. MENA-region users lacked a trustworthy, privacy-respecting cloud storage solution that matched their language, payment preferences, and data sovereignty expectations.
What I built
AAMEEN was built from the ground up with an encrypt-first architecture: all cryptographic operations happen in the browser using a master-key model derived from the user's password via PBKDF2/Argon2. The server only stores encrypted DEKs and ciphertext — it is architecturally incapable of accessing user files. The frontend is Arabic-first with full RTL support via react-i18next, and payments are handled via Paymob supporting cards, mobile wallets, and Fawry cash payments.
